Memberships are all the rage. We’ve all collectively subscribed to and are members of more emails, services, clubs, and organizations than we can count. We’re not simply subscribed to one streaming service… you gotta have Netflix, Hulu, Apple+, Prime Video, and more. So why do we do it? Because it adds value to our lives. So, what’s the value or benefit of being part of the Loam Family?

That’s a great question and should be asked. You and I both spend time and money on things that bring or add value to our lives. If you don’t want to see ads on Netflix or Hulu, you’ll pay more to skip them. Why? Value added. You no longer see annoying ads. You’re saving time and are no longer frustrated by that intrusion, especially when your show reaches a key moment.

Before I sold Loam Coffee in 2020 (only to reacquire it in 2023), I had experimented with some kind of membership program. No, it’s not a paid service like the other subscription models I mentioned. I used all sorts of terms interchangeably … ambassadors, grassroots riders, team riders, etc. The idea is to sign up to be a “member” of Loam Coffee. I call it the Loam Family now. That catches and collects the various terms we use, like ambassador, grassroots rider, teams, groups, bike shops, etc. Maybe “family” sounds too much like the mafia. So why does it matter? What is the added benefit of being part of the Loam Family?

I don’t know about you, but I have more industry “pro” deals than I can track. I rarely purchase items unless I’m getting 20%-40% off. Whether we’re talking complete bikes, bike parts, clothing, gear, and more, that’s a game-changer. Often, these kinds of memberships don’t require paying a monthly subscription. All you do is share your email and get put on an email list. That’s an excellent exchange for me, precisely what we offer with our Loam Family program. The financial cost to you? NOTHING. It’s FREE.

In its simplest form, this is our industry “insider” discount for anyone interested. When you share your email, we sign you up for an exclusive Loam Family email newsletter, which I send out about once a month. You simply get the inside scoop and information before anyone else does. Not only that but there’s a separate “hidden” page on our website for Loam Family members only. Along with that, you will have access to gear or merch.

I’m also adding exclusive deals sent our way to that page. For example, Loam Family members get a discount on Trail Builder Magazine. I’ll continue to add more discounts and exclusive offers to Loam Family members as they come my way.
